How playing your way to better relationships, thinking, and emotional intelligence works.

The theory

Success is all in the mind

Relationship skills – communicating, collaborating, building teams, managing, and leading – are the most important skills to master. However, conventional approaches to building these skills rely on cognitive-intensive methods,  like models and process steps, which contribute to our current state of information overload.

These methods require becoming conscious of subconscious processes — a slow and tiring effort entailing repetition and remembering. We mistakenly believe that we need to be conscious of the change in order for the change to happen. Yet, some of our greatest breakthroughs occur unconsciously.

Smarter with neuroscience

Neuroscience tells us that our behavior is not a conscious decision; rather, it’s driven by habits and impulses. That’s why Act like an Icon targets subconscious brain patterns and changes them where they reside, simply and intuitively, in the subconscious mind. Our subconscious can’t tell the difference between our “real” behavior and our acting.

By acting like an icon, e.g., Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs, or Jack Welch, people engage in “What would this person do?” scenarios and break out of their normal modes of thinking, relating, and conversing.  Adopting a new persona makes it easy to let go of strongly held beliefs, including those related to self-image, and become aware of new ways of thinking and being.

"We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.”

Acting like
an icon:

  • Improves interpersonal skills intuitively
  • Depersonalizes feedback
  • Diversifies behaviors, perspectives, and thinking
  • Allows introverts to speak up freely
  • Nurtures adaptive leadership behaviors
  • Puts thinking out-of-the-box in a box
  • Is easy to use and understand without any training
  • IS FUN!
